Operating hours and after hours arrangements
Our opening hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 9:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday. We are closed on Sundays and Public Holidays.
After-hours visits are serviced by the National Home Doctor Service on 13-SICK (13-7425).
Practice Location and Demographics
Melton is a satellite suburb of Melbourne situated along the Western Highway approximately 40km west of the CBD. The city of Melton has over 175,000 residents and is one of Victoria's fastest growth areas with an annual growth rate of 5%. The clinic is centrally located within Melton's Central Business Area and has close access to most local services; including buses, trains, ambulance, chemists and post office.
The practice is situated on a corner block at the intersection of Unitt & Alexandra Streets in central Melton. It has a main entrance for patients, and a combined disabled/ambulance entry with ramp. There are eleven consulting rooms and one treatment room. There is a large reception / waiting area, which can seat 33 patients and has a children's play area. The practice is fully computerised, and has been virtually paperless since 2004.
Clinic History
Melton Medical Clinic was established in 1971 by a husband and wife - David and Sarah Gome - both doctors, who worked at the clinic, and has since grown to meet the needs of the expanding township of Melton. Currently, there are five full-time and two part-time general practitioners working at the clinic.
Our Affiliations
The Doctors and Staff of Melton Medical Clinic work with many organisations who are involved in healthcare, teaching/training of doctors and medical students and quality improvement of general practice and family healthcare. Some of these are listed below:
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) - main body for overseeing standards, procedures and the training of new doctors in family general practice.
University of Melbourne - for teaching and training of postgraduate medical students enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course.
Federal Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC) - the main body which oversees the training of new doctors in family general practice.
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) - the main body which registers medical practitioners, nurses, psychologists and other health professionals.
Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) - one of the bodies surveying and accrediting individual general practices to the standards set by the RACGP.
GP Foundation - originally started as a division of general practice, GP Foundation helps GPs by offering effective support, education and advocacy, enabling us to offer the best possible care in our practice.
Australian Association of Practice Managers (AAPM) - the main body setting standards and training for Practice Managers.
Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA) - providing primary health care support for practice nurses.
Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) - providing forensic medical services to the Victorian Police Force.
